As mentioned back in the summer, I have a podcast problem.
This year's lockdowns and months of working from home have only spurred on my podcast listening habits, so I thought I'd share with you my latest foodie podcast picks.
Home Cooking
Now on the 13th episode, this 4-part series is a fantastic podcast. Hosted by Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat's Samin Nosrat and Song Exploder's Hrishi Hirway this is a pun-filled happy hour of foodie tips and friends generally having a great time together. If Samin's laugh doesn't brighten your day then I'm worried that you're dead inside!
Cooking the Books with Gilly Smith
This is a podcast catering for bookworms and foodies alike. Here food journalist Gilly Smith speaks to authors and asks them to identify their 5 food moments from one of their books. The authors range from Tom Kerridge speaking about his Hand and Flowers cookbook to fiction author of the Strawberry Thief Joanne Harris. The podcast takes a different tone each week depending on the book being discussed. One of my surprise favourite episodes was focussed on the Giffords Circus cookbook, when a podcast gives you a vivid picture of a circus in full flow you know it's worth a listen.
The Food Chain
BBC World service's food programme tackles a host of subjects from agriculture to hospital dinners. Being a world service programme it gives an interesting variety of perspectives from across the world.
Growing Beer
This quirky little podcast follows Ben Richards (no relation) and his project to turn his allotment into a single-origin beer production site. From growing his own barley, harvesting rain water and trying to locate a local natural brewing yeast strain each episode follows a particular stage of the growing and brewing process. Series two covers an even older story - the origins of brewing.
